Welcome to College View Elementary!

Bienvenido a College View. Coming to a new school can be an adjustment. It can be even more difficult when you're put into a classroom where many of the students have had previous classroom experience with a new language. Señora Koepp will be speaking mostly in Spanish throughout the Spanish lesson. Do not be worried, you do not need to understand every single word. Many students in the classroom, even those who have attended College View Elementary for many years, will not understand every word of what is being said. You just need to listen for the main words so you can understand your job in the Spanish classroom. The more time you spend listening to Spanish, the easier it will be for you to understand. Remember, each person in the classroom is learning Spanish. Try your best and take a risk! If you follow these tips, you can be successful in the Spanish classroom!

-Watch Señora Koepp to see the actions, visuals, and facial expressions being used. This will help you understand what is being discussed.

-Watch your classmates. Students who have been in the Spanish classroom for awhile can better understand the directions as well as show you what is expected in class.

-Listen for words that sound similar to words you know in English. These words are called cognates and are used regularly in Spanish.

-Raise your hand and ask for the directions to be repeated if you have a question.

-Ask a classmate if they can understand the direction and explain it to you.

-Practice the vocabulary on the website at home. This could mean using the tools provided online or by using the site to write down the words so you can make flash cards at home.
